The Urban Teaching Fellows Program
Other
programs assume that since you
are bright and well educated, you will be able to teach with virtually
no training. The Urban Teaching Fellows Program knows that even
"natural teachers" need support and guidance from experienced
mentors.
Because
our entire year is about
training, you won't receive rudimentary training during a few weeks of
the summer and then be thrown into the role of a full time
teacher. Instead, you will have a chance to find your place in
the school, get to know the students and the staff, and observe veteran
teachers at work during the first phase of the program.

When
you and your mentor decide
that you are ready, you will begin planning and teaching lessons.
You will get feedback and help from your mentor as you refine your
teaching style.
By
the third phase of the program,
you will be in full charge of at least one class, but your mentor will
continue to be with you offering both
support and constructive criticism.
By
design, this program is
flexible. Each fellow has a unique experience in the program and
brings to it his/her own interests and experiences.
